Anibal Lobo Bio
Posted on 12. Jul, 2010 by SeanHaleyMuayThai in Blog
Anibal Lobo was born in the Flamengo neighborhood of Rio De Janeiro. He was
introduced to Jiu-Jitsu when he was 15 years old by his childhood friends Rickson Gracie and Pedro Sauer. He began training with the legendary Helio Gracie at the Rio Branco Academy in 1977. The Academy later moved to the Humaita neighborhood where Anibal received his Blue Belt from Rickson Gracie in 1980. The Humaita Gracie Academy continues to be the one of Brazil’s leading Jiu-Jitsu centers.
In 1988 Anibal and Pedro Sauer moved to Los Angeles, following Rickson Gracie to the United States with their mutual commitment to help bring Gracie Jiu-Jitsu to America. He continued training with Rickson and later moved to Provo, Utah to teach with Pedro Sauer representing the Rickson Gracie Association. In 1998, at the first Rickson Gracie International Competition, Anibal was presented with a special award by Rickson Gracie at a ceremony honoring his important role in the development of Jiu-Jitsu. He began representing the Pedro Sauer Association in 2000 – teaching classes in Salinas, South Central Los Angeles and various other locations throughout California. He received his Black Belt from Pedro Sauer in 2007.
Anibal’s goal is to inspire his students to develop an exceptional grasp of the techniques and traditions of Jiu-Jitsu and achieve a higher level of skills and self-confidence that will enrich their lives both on and off the mat. His focus is not only on teaching his students the kinds of skills that will be important to them in Jiu-Jitsu competitions, but also to help them develop the practical self-defense skills that form a crucial foundation of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu and are essential for everyday life. Anibal lives by his grandfather’s advice, “You can count the days of your life or you can make every day count.” He adds that Jiu-Jitsu teaches a person be humble, to appreciate the value of other human beings, and to be a better person.
He considers it his responsibility to help pass Jiu-Jitsu on to future generations. Anibal has known his wife, Hilda James, since they were both 14 years old. He fondly remembers their going to school together with Rickson Gracie and Pedro Sauer. Their first kiss was behind Helio Gracie’s piano.

Summer Raffle Ticket Program!
Summer is here!
We hope our Tiny Tigers, Junior Dragons, and Teen Tigers enjoy their time off from school, but we don’t want them to miss their martial art classes. So as an incentive to come to class this summer we are offering two raffle tickets to each student every time they come in to train. At the end of summer we will have a VIP Party, and we will pick out a raffle ticket to see who wins the grand prize. Whoever has the most tickets will have a higher chance of winning the prize.
New Referral Program!
We would like to take a moment to tell you about the Oregon Martial Arts Referral program. This program is designed to attract quality students like our current members. The program is a great way to let other children receive the benefits of martial arts that your child receives at Oregon Martial Arts. In addition, it is always fun for a child to have his or her friend in the same class and can also be useful for carpooling.
The program very simply works off a OMAC card which we have at the front desk. The recipient of the card receives a uniform and 3 introductory classes for $14.95, at this time a student will get 4extra raffell tickets. When they decide to become a member, the student that referred their friend will then receive $50 cash!
Feel free to give this card to anyone you like or someone your child may be interested in having in class with them. Thank you for your time and support.

Sidekick Foundation The Sidekick Foundation, Inc. is an IRS approved 501(c)3 Non-Profit Organization.
Over 50 psychological and medical studies done over the past 35 years show that martial arts training can improve mental, physical and spiritual health. The Sidekick foundation has partnered up with Oregon Martial Arts to provide scholarships for at-risk children to take martial arts lessons thus building their mental, physical or spiritual strength to live a healthier, more value-oriented life.
For at-risk children this training can substantially improve their quality of life for the rest of their lives. Our “at risk” children’s program takes kids who are on the brink of getting into trouble and puts them on “the straight and narrow” by providing scholarships for them to take martial arts lessons. Martial arts training improves the ability to focus, to concentrate, self-discipline, self-confidence, self-esteem, and the ability to manage stress. Martial arts also provides positive peer influence, pro-social activity and positive leadership from the instructors.
If you would like to contribute to the foundation or know of at-risk youth that may benefit from our classes please come to the front desk to get more info or an application for a scholarship for child you know who could benefit from training at Oregon Martial Arts.
