His serious training and competitions started at age 14. This is when Rigan started to train everyday on the mat. From the age of 14 through 21, he won the World Championship every year in every belt division. A Heavyweight fighter from Wohlen, Switzerland, Andy Hug (September 7, 1964 – August 24, 2000) was a professional Kickboxer and Karate competitor who was one of the toughest fighters of  his generation. Andy, who began training in the martial arts during his teenage years, was a force to be reckoned with in both combat sports. He has won title fights including a World title in Karate, and also had success in kickboxing as he held numerous Championships. In his career, he held a record of 10-1 in Seidokaikan Karate, and 38 wins, 9 losses and 1 draw in Kickboxing.

Born in Zurich, Switzerland, Andy began playing soccer at the age of six and was part of the Swiss under-16 team. When he was 11, he commenced his training in Karate at Wohlen Karate Academy under the tutelage of Werner Schenker.

In 1979, he won his first title, the Oyama Cup by the time he was 15, and since then had been and outstanding Karateka. From 1981 to 1991, he competed in Kyokushin Karate tournaments and won 10 championships and was a runner-ups in a few tournaments as well.

In 1992, Andy won the Seidokaikan Karate World Cup when he defeated Taiei Kin in the final round. And in 1993, he placed second in the same event after he lost to Masaaki Satake via Tameshiwari in their bout that had to go an extra round to determine the winner. He finished his career in Seidokaikan with 10-1 record knocking out two of his opponents.

On April 30, 1993, Andy Hug made his K-1 Kickboxing. He defeated Nobuaki Kakuda by left knee strike that resulted in TKO.

Since that day, his career advanced in K-1 Kickboxing, he became more well-known worldwide for his wins. He won over Rob van Esdonk via KO in 1994 for UKF World title (which he defended later in his career twice).

In 1996, Andy won the K-1 Grand Prix and the WMTC World Super Heavyweight title. In the K-1 Grand Prix, he defeated Duane Van Der Merwe, Ernesto Hoost (who beat him three times in his career) in the elimination and Mike Bernardo in the finals. For the WMTC, he knocked out Stan Longinidis and was named the new champion. Moreover, he also won the WKA World Muay Thai title over Masaaki Satake via unanimous decision. He defended the title four times and held it for four years.

Aside from Ernesto, Andy also had mixed results against fighters like Bernardo, Sam Greco and Peter Aerts. He also holds notable wins over Jérôme Le Banner, Musashi, Glaube Feitosa and Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipović.

On August 17, 2000, Andy was diagnosed with acute leukemia. On August 24 the same year, many fans of K-1 Kickboxing were shocked when they heard Andy had passed away. He was 35 and left his son and wife.

Andy was a southpaw fighter who was very popular with his axe kicks. Aside from this, he also used spinning back kick and turning heel hook kick which are rarely seen in Kickboxing.

In his career, he represented Team Andy. In his kickboxing wins, 22 came via knockouts and 16 via decisions.

Learning Self-Defense – One of the Benefits of Martial Arts Stuff for Toddlers in Tigard

The Practical Benefits of Martial Arts Stuff for Toddlers in Tigard

Other than school, are you looking for an activity for your children for them to develop? Do you want them to get into sports and to be disciplined? If you lived in Portland Metro Area, how about martial arts stuff for toddlers in Tigard?

Martial arts provide a wide range of benefits for anyone who practices them. While practicing martial arts develops self esteem, confidence, self control, focus, and a whole host of other important mental and emotional faculties, the most basic benefit martial arts provide is a practical one- they teach people how to defend themselves physically.

This ability is very important to have as an adult, but there are many reasons why it’s wise to develop self defense skills at a very young age. If for no other reason, making sure your child is capable of defending and protecting themselves physically makes martial arts training for children a wise investment.

The Sooner Your Child Begins Training the Better the Will Become

The first reason why you should have your child train in martial arts starting at a young age is because the sooner they begin training, the better they will be later in life. An individual who first begins to learn how to defend themselves at the age of 25 will be far less competent at the skill than an individual who first begins to learn how to defend themselves between the ages of 4-6. There’s no substitute for sheer experience, and the only way your child will gain a large amount of experience learning self defense is if they begin when they are very young.

Not only will years of experience lay a great foundation for your child to truly develop into an effective martial artist, but starting young insures your child starts to learn to defend themselves when they are impressionable, when they learn quickly, and when they don’t have a lot of preconceived notions about how to defend themselves which are, quite frankly, wrong.

Martial Arts Training isn’t Fighting

Some parents object to enrolling their child in martial arts training because they don’t believe a child should know how to fight. This concern is easy to understand, even if it isn’t quite accurate.

First, martial arts training isn’t about fighting. No instructor trains a child in martial arts with the goal of creating a little monster who wants to go out and get into fights. Martial arts training is about self defense, about your child knowing how to handle themselves in case someone else is the aggressor and picks a fight. Martial arts training will primarily teach your child how to avoid fights and how to not feel the need to fight, while teaching the physical skills of self defense as an unfortunately necessary last resort.

Second, nobody wants to think about their child getting into a fight, but to put matters bluntly- fights happen, even if your child isn’t looking for one. True, it’s unlikely your child will get into a fight with another child when they are very young. But fights break out unpredictably, you and your child never know when during their life a fight might come to them, and so it makes sense to insure your child is prepared for anything, whenever it might occur.

The sooner you enroll your child in martial arts training the better they will be at defending themselves, and the greater the likelihood they will be prepared when an unfortunate, unpredictable incident occurs.

Increasing your Children’s Physical Coordination with Martial Arts Program for Toddlers in Tigard

The benefits of having your child train in martial arts, starting at a young age, are manifold. These benefits are spread almost completely evenly between mental, emotional and physical lessons. The mental benefits of training in martial arts include increased focus and a powerful ability to concentrate. The emotional benefits of martial arts training in children include an increased level of self control and an ability to properly manage negative feelings. The physical benefits of martial arts start with a basic competency in self defense, but your child won’t simply learn how to take care of themselves in case they wind up the target of someone else’s aggression. No, the biggest physical benefit of martial arts training for children is an increased level of basic physical coordination.

General Body Coordination

In Oregon Martial Arts, training will provide your child with a generally well developed body and a good idea of how to use it. The physical coordination associated with our program for toddlers in Tigard will assist your child in their classes, belt tests and competitions, but it will also transfer to any other physical activity which they desire to engage in. Children with body conditions and physical coordination developed through martial arts training will be better at all sports, as well as other physical activities such as dancing or even simply riding a bike.

Martial arts training will develop a child’s cardiovascular system, their muscular strength, and the general kind of “body knowledge” which can only be gained from a whole body method of training. A child who studies martial arts will be much more aware of their body, how to use it correctly and how to know if something is wrong, than a child who doesn’t train in martial arts. This “body knowledge” translates into a level of grace, poise and spatial awareness which is rare within untrained children.

Body Coordination’s Health and Social Advantages

The increased level of grace, poise, and proper posture will all help your child out even when they aren’t engaging in a direct physical competition like a game of soccer or football. Grace, poise and proper posture will make your child appear more attractive and more confident, and will help them stand out from the other children and adults around them during a social situation. The social benefits of the increased coordination and “body knowledge” provided by martial arts are subtle, but powerful.

Proper posture, physical grace, and the enhanced reflexes of a child training in martial arts will also help improve their health. Poor posture leads to cramped organs, improper breathing, and a whole host of other tangibly unhealthy bodily expressions. Martial arts training fixes these problems. Increased reflexes also lead to fewer accidents and less harm caused when an accident occurs.

Overall, it’s easy to see how the physical coordination provided by our program for toddlers in Tigard prepares them for a lifetime of good health, filled with success in whatever physical or social activity they choose to engage in.

Developing Your Children’s Social Skills through Karate Classes for Toddlers in Tigard

Developing Your Children’s Social Skills through Karate Classes for Toddlers in Tigard

It’s hard to overstate the importance of the physical benefits which provides for children who begin taking classes at a young age. Children who train in are healthier, fitter, and more physically confident than children who do not. However, there are other (less immediately obvious) benefits enjoyed by children who train in the martial art.

In Oregon Martial Arts, one of the most important and often initially overlooked benefits of Karate classes for toddlers in Tigard is the fact it’s a very social activity.

If you enroll your child in martial arts training you will provide them with a whole host of new friends and an environment to practice developing their social skills.

Karate Classes are Group Activities

Banish that “Karate Kid” image in your head of a child training by themselves with a single teacher. While there are benefits and a time & place for one-on-one training, the majority of Karate classes occur between a large number of children and often multiple instructors and junior instructors. Karate classes for toddlers in Tigard aren’t practiced alone on a mountaintop- they are practiced within a vibrant and positive community which includes people of all ages, skill levels, and walks of life. Enrolling your child in a Karate class is a great way to expose them to a wide range of positive, healthy people they might never have met otherwise.

During most Karate classes, students will be training with many other children, both alongside them, in small groups and one-on-one while training movements or sparring. There is a completely safe and healthy level of competition between students in all the best classes. This competitive element revolves around students working hard to not only excel, but also to help each other excel and strive to be better and better. In Oregon Martial Arts, Karate classes are far more cooperative than competitive.

Ultimately in all martial arts, the only competition is internal- your child competing with themselves to be better and better.

A Built in Community

One of the best things about the social aspect of Karate classes for toddler in Tigard is the fact they offer a wide range of relationships and social situations for your child to explore and develop experience within. As your child grows older they will grow and develop alongside a number of other students whom they have been training with for years and years. Yet as your child grows up new, younger students will arrive at their school. Your child will benefit both from learning Karate from teachers and students who are more advanced than them, while also training and helping out those students younger and less advanced than they are. A martial arts school is a vibrant community which your child will grow into and contribute value to.

You’d be hard pressed to find a better place to enroll your child than a martial arts school providing them with a wide range of relationships to develop, roles to fill, and lessons to learn.

I, Sean Haley, an instructor of karate classes for toddlers in Tigard and head instructor of Oregon Martial Arts, will help you parents to improve personal relation of your kids by joining our class.

Guiding Portland Kids to Be Humble Through Teaching Your Toddler Karate in Tigard

Guiding Portland Kids to Be Humble Through Teaching Your Toddler Karate in Tigard

Guiding Portland Kids to Be Humble Through Teaching Your Toddler Karate in Tigard

There are many personality traits these days which parents wish to instill in their children which are difficult at best to make stick. One of those traits is humility. Every parent wants a child who isn’t boastful and constantly bragging, who treats others with respect and not disdain, and who maintains the right perspective on their place in the world. This tendency is hardly instilled in our culture’s children by the media, which constantly pelts it with messages about selfishness and self-importance. Thankfully, teaching your toddler karate in Tigard (provided by Oregon Matial Arts), offers an incredible way to help even the youngest children begin to develop a strong sense of humility.

Finding a School that Teaches Humility

Does every single martial arts school in the world teach its students to be humble people? Of course not. But those schools that don’t instruct their students about humility are subverting and undermining the art which they purport to teach. Karate isn’t about arrogance and aggression. It’s about being able to defend yourself and others from the jerks who are acting arrogant and aggressive. Learning self defense is all about humility, about gauging a situation and not letting your emotions and knee-jerk reactions dictate how you act during a difficult situation, and learning to shrug off the insults and taunts which would enrage others while only protecting yourself as a last resort.

Finding a martial arts school which will teach your child humility is as simple as finding a martial arts school with humble instructors and a humble head master. Meet the school’s instructors, speak with them, and determine what they are like as people. Watch their class and see if they pit their students against each other… or if they encourage all of their students and teach kindness to weaker and less accomplished trainers.

Remember- kind, humble teachers produce kind, humble students.

Humility is a Practice

You can tell your child all about humility on your own. You can explain to them why they should be kind, why they should always strive to be better, why they should show compassion and offer help to the people less fortunate than themselves. Speaking with your child about humility is important and necessary. But talk, as they say, is cheap. The only way your child will unfailingly develop humility is if they practice it again and again.

While teaching your toddler Karate in Tigard, we provide students with the opportunity to practice humility every single lesson they attend. Not only will your child actively develop humility, but they will do so under the most challenging of conditions. If there is any time when a child will feel tempted to act arrogantly it’s when they are clearly, definitively, physically dominant over another child. Karate tackles this dangerous ground head on and will require your child to constantly embody restraint and compassion to those who are demonstrable weaker.

The only way your child will truly integrate intellectual lessons on humility is through regular, concrete practice, which Karate can provide from a very young age.

Teaching Perseverance through Martial Arts Program for Toddlers in Tigard

Teaching Perseverance through Martial Arts Program for Toddlers in Tigard

The Importance of Perseverance in Martial Arts Training Program for Toddlers in Tigard

Perseverance is the secret sauce to your child’s success in life. True, your child will need to develop strong discipline. Your child will also need to find their passion, talent and excitement. But none of those character traits will bring about success in your child’s life unless they also learn perseverance. We’ve all seen people who are very disciplined for only a short period of time before abandoning their positive habits. We all know people who are unbelievably talented and who can obsess over their craft and develop incredible skill and talent… until their passion burns out and they give up.

Are these models which you’d like your child to follow and mirror in their development?

Of course not. If your child will live a life of lasting success and growth then they will need to learn perseverance, and martial arts training is one of the best program for toddlers in Tigard, which is offered by Oregon Martial Arts where they can learn this crucial trait.

Martial Arts Training- Perseverance in the Face of Failure

To put matters very bluntly- when your child undertakes martial arts training they will “fail” constantly. Martial arts training is a course of learning which involves constantly coming in contact with experiences beyond your child’s ability. As soon as your child masters one skill set they will need to learn a new, unfamiliar set of techniques and principles which will challenge them deeply. After a certain age your child will likely spar continuously with other students who are larger, stronger and better trained than they are. There are few times in martial arts training where your child will be able to rest contentedly on their laurels.

All of this might sound harsh, especially due to the love and care you have for your child, but it is far kinder than it sounds. For anyone who wants to get ahead and achieve anything in their life the world is a constant set of ever-evolving challenges. If you want your child to live a successful life then they will need to adopt the persevering attitude which says “I’m moving forward no matter what I have to learn and who I need to face.”

Perseverance Leads to Growth

Eventually your child will master the set of techniques and principles which challenged them so deeply. Eventually your child will grow stronger and more skilled and they will learn how to defeat that once intimidating opponent. Martial arts training for your child will teach them how all challenges are surmountable with the right attitude of perseverance.

Everyone wishes their child will simply coast through life and succeed without overcoming challenges. This is an understandable and sweet perspective, but one that unfortunately amounts to an impossible desire. Martial arts training will not only teach your child how to stick to achieving their goals of progress, it will teach them how to stick to achieving their goals even when the going gets tough and their passions burn low.

After all- the only perseverance that matters is persevering in the face of true challenge. All martial arts understand this principle and structure their training to instill it within their students from as young an age as possible.

In Oregon Martial Arts, we offer a program for toddlers in Tigard to develop their traits and character not to give in.

Teaching Your Child to Pursue Passion through Martial Education for Toddlers in Tigard

Children derive a huge number of benefits from martial arts training. Some of those benefits are concrete, such as an increased level of health and fitness, while other benefits are less immediately tangible, such as a higher level of confidence. Yet every benefit, material or otherwise, your child will derive from learning martial arts will transfer outwards to the rest of their life and improve a whole host of endeavors which seem, on the surface, to have nothing to do with their training. For example, martial arts training will teach your child one of the most important transferable skills out there- how to follow a pursuit with total passion.

The Necessary Passion of Martial Arts Training

Martial arts training isn’t easy. Classes may be fun and exciting but they are also difficult. Martial arts classes place can put a large amount of physical, mental and emotional strain on your child. Getting good at martial arts also takes a long time and a lot of personal commitment. No one takes a martial arts class for one month, or once every other week, and progresses very far in their training. If your child is going to pursue martial arts training they will need to resign themselves for the “long haul” and for challenging themselves almost every day.

Martial arts training isn’t easy, but it is highly rewarding. If your child wants to approach martial arts training then they will need to either learn how to find, or learn how to develop, a burning passion for their pursuit.

In Oregon Martial Arts, the curriculum for our education for toddlers in Tigard will make sure your child/ren doesn’t experience anything they can’t handle, but your child will still be put to the test and break through many of the limitations they used to define what they could and couldn’t do.

Getting in Touch With Personal Passion

The sooner your child learns to tune in to their personal passion, to recognize when something sets them on fire and excites them beyond belief, the sooner your child will begin to create the life they want. Some people feel that some children are “too young” to have to worry about figuring out how they want to live their life. Yet think about your own life. Don’t you wish you learned to recognize and pursue your passions at the youngest age possible? The younger anyone learns to recognize and pursue passion, especially in the fact of difficulties and challenges, the further they will progress in the fields they love.

The education for toddlers in Tigard through martial arts isn’t about forcing them into doing something they don’t want. It’s about helping your child learn the importance of looking inside and digging deep, well before the world starts demanding such resolve.

Spontaneity, Creativity and Martial Arts Stuff for Toddlers in Tigard

Of the many benefits your child will experience from taking martial arts training, one of the most valuable is the development of their spontaneity and creativity. Many parents initially fail to understand how martial arts training develops spontaneity and creativity. After all, the image most parents have of a martial arts class involves a bunch of regimented students doing whatever they instructor requires of them. Students all run together when their instructor has them run. Students do push-ups together when their instructor tells them to hit the mats. Students all perform the same punches and kicks together, over and over again, until class is over.

It’s easy to understand why a parent might mistake martial arts training for children as a stuffy past-time. Yet just because this perspective is understandable doesn’t mean it’s right.

The Illusion of Conformity in Martial Arts Training

The notion martial arts training enforces conformity is nothing more than an illusion. In Oregon Martial Arts, all students do need to respect their teacher and follow their instructions. All students do need to act as a group and learn as a group. All students will be taught the same principles and techniques. But no two students are trained in exactly the same manner, or taught to develop the exact same style.

The basic physical conditioning, techniques and principles taught to students are nothing more than the framework, the foundation, on which each student will develop their own interpretation of their martial art. All students are taught the same punch, but every student will utilize that punch differently. The conformity of this stuff for Toddlers in Tigard is nothing more than the basic toolkit handed out to every student within a class. If each of those students, your child included, will truly succeed in the martial arts then they will need to learn to use that toolkit differently than anyone else.

Focused Creativity and Spontaneity

The reason most people misunderstand how martial arts training teaches creativity and spontaneity is due to the fact most people misunderstand what creativity and spontaneity are all about in the first place. These valuable skills aren’t about doing everything radically different than everyone else at all times. These valuable skills are about saving the full force of your imagination for those moments when unique action will produce incredible results. It’s important to be spontaneous and original where it counts and not waste creative energy when it isn’t necessary to spend.

Your child will never figure out the mechanics of throwing a punch better than a martial arts discipline which has spent thousands of years fine-tuning the movement. But your child can learn how to utilize that punch in a wholly creative manner, like no one else ever would use it, when necessary. Knowing when to be a good student and when to act creatively is an important life lesson and martial arts stuff for toddlers in Tigard, which is offered by Oregon Martial Arts, will teach it to your child.
